A weeklong countdown to the 21st century’s defining sounds
Dropping over the course of this week, 2000–25 centers on three major lists: Best Tracks, Best Records and Best Mixes. Tracks arrive Wednesday, December 10th, followed by Records and Mixes on Thursday the 11th. Together, these rankings aim to reframe the last quarter-century of electronic music through a 2025 lens.
Positioned as an extensive celebration of groundbreaking work, the project follows on from RA.1000 and is designed for deep listening and discovery. Further editorial features, mixes and events reflecting on the past 25 years will continue into 2026.
How the lists were made
The rankings draw on input from more than 100 contributors worldwide, including artists, labels, clubs, promoters, DJs, journalists, former and current staff, genre specialists and freelancers. Thousands of votes were cast, narrowing the field to almost 900 releases across the three categories.
Best Tracks emphasizes enduring club anthems and releases that catalyzed global sub-genres and movements. Best Records focuses on complete bodies of work—albums, EPs, twelve-inches and compilations—with universal impact. Best Mixes charts the evolution of DJing from physical to digital and into the cloud, offering a chronological view of how the craft has changed.
Listen, debate and dive deeper
Each ranking will be accompanied by listening guides built for playlist-led exploration. Feedback and debate will unfold across social channels, giving readers a place to respond to the results in real time. (Comments won’t be reopened on the site.)
To kick things off, this week’s RA Mix is a special three-hour set from Mala, documenting 25 years in dubstep. A teaser for 2000–25 and RA.1016 are also available, with more to follow as the project rolls out.
